1951 Chevy 3100
This project began as a very clean 1951 Chevy CarryAll 3100, that the customer had installed a GMC 270 into. There was numerous hours of fabricating in order to install the wrong engine into this thing (by an unknown mechanic), but I quickly itemized the issues and found a donor 292 block to build for this car show quality specimen.
The 292 block came from a 1964 CarryAll 3800, and was dissasembled. We quickly realized that this particular motor had already been built, as it had .060 oversized pistons. We tore it down and sent the block off for inspection, ran a hone through it, and installed new rings and all new bearings. (which was a challenge because the mains and rods were .010 over)
What we ended up with, in the end, was a 292 straight 6 that is bored .060 over, with a Clifford intake manifold, shorty street headers and a Weber 38/38 carburation system. The stock manufacturer HP rating was about 147, currently with the higher compression of an updated (hardened seat head, with 184 intake valves) and a stage one camshaft, we should be puttting out about 225 or better, to the TH350 transmission.
